Dear
Polite One,
A
friend who is marrying has created a honeymoon registry to
collect cash for various aspects of their honeymoon cruise: airfare, excursions,
on-board expenses.
Because
I find this is tacky, I will not contribute and wish to give to a charity
instead. They don't need others to pay
for their honeymoon as they both have generous salaries. Will this be appropriate?
Gasp!
Dear
Gasp!
I
advise couples to skip
this type of registry because many guests find them tacky and greedy, even
though the registry is now considered appropriate. Personally, I don't care for
them either. Couples should register for a variety of gifts at all price points
so as not to offend. They obviously didn't get the memo.
It
really isn't appropriate to give their gift to a
charity, but if you know they align themselves with the charity, then it should
be fine.
Sincerely,
The
Polite One
